:(

Well, single mom life ain't all roses all the time...

Today, Shae and I were reading Al Yankovic's new book, When I Grow Up... and it's excellent.

I asked Shae what she would be when she grew up...

She said...

"Angee, like you."

Angry, like you.  That makes my heart hurt.

The stress of the new house, the spectacular amount of demand work is placing on me - none of it is an excuse.  My 2 year old daughter is telling me I need to chill out.

She then said, "No.  I gonna be a boy."

To that I said, "Okay."

  1. Oh Mandy, I'm so sorry.

I think lessons from 2 year olds might be a mandatory right of passage for mommies.

Talulah was playing with her imaginary babies and dinosaurs and putting them in time outs. She was speaking to them the way I speak to her when I've lost my patience and let me tell you... It was like a punch in the stomach.

After that, we played "time out" with some dinosaurs we made and practiced speaking to them nicely even when they were misbehaving.

It was a HUGE lesson for me, and it still chokes me up to think about it.

Now I'm trying to practice speaking nicely to my little dinosaur all the time, even when I've had it with her. On the days where my patience has run out of gas it's hard. Like, really hard. Things take WAY longer to get done without yelling, but it's been worth it so far.

I haven't been perfect. Not by a long shot. And she's still a crazy person sometimes. Still drives me up the wall sometimes.

    We're both learning.

Just like you and Shae are both learning. I honestly think the hardest lessons come from ourselves, and from the amazing little teachers we call our children.

Chin up Momma... You're not alone. And you know what? You're still stellar. You love that little girl with everything you've got, and she knows it. The fact that you're open to accept Shae telling you, in her 2 year old way, that you need to chill out is amazing.

I heart you. And so does Shae... Or else she wouldn't want to be just like you.
