Is it a mom fail when your kid's favorite thing to draw is a McDonald's drive thru? I'm sure it's not because they greet us by name and know which toy Shae doesn't have yet, right?
Oh yeah, single parenting is full of the easy outs...

Poppa
Shae's Poppa came straight from work, drove 3 hours to watch Shae this weekend while I work. This, in itself, is amazing, and a true testament to what an amazing Poppa he is...
From the minute he walked in the door, Shae was bending his ear. Showing him around from room to room, and finally ending the tour in the wretchedly hot upstairs playroom (I may have turned the air off this morning... whoops!)...
I go up to see if Pah has passed out from the heat, considering he drove 3 hours in an unairconditioned truck, after working all day on a receiving dock....
and there is Pah, sitting on the floor, with a pair of doll pants on his ear, a necklace and bracelet on. Happily and totally at the mercy of a 2 year old.
As they came downstairs, a short time later, this is what Shae said to her Poppa:
You're my best friend.
And he earns it.

Girl's Night
Just a girl, dining with her besties, bistro style...
Tonight, Shae and I ate on our deck, pulled weeds, and then she stripped down to her bare bum and cooled off in the sprinkler in our backyard... then at bed time she said, "You bought this house FOR ME, right?"
I'm so happy in our home. The house buying stress was cured this evening. Thanks Shae.

:(
Well, single mom life ain't all roses all the time...
Today, Shae and I were reading Al Yankovic's new book, When I Grow Up... and it's excellent.
I asked Shae what she would be when she grew up...
She said...
"Angee, like you."
Angry, like you. That makes my heart hurt.
The stress of the new house, the spectacular amount of demand work is placing on me - none of it is an excuse. My 2 year old daughter is telling me I need to chill out.
She then said, "No. I gonna be a boy."
To that I said, "Okay."

Bonk
Do you ever have a week where you're fairly certain your kid needs a helmet, and the only thing stopping you is that you're pretty sure she's already damaged her brain from all the knocks she's taken?
Shae's head is having one of those weeks.
She wore a dress over her face a few days ago and I laughed and laughed and laughed... until she ran into the corner of a cupboard forehead first. Worse - I didn't see it, thought she was tired and over reacting... so I put her to bed, where cranky kids belong.
She woke up with a sizeable goose egg. I'll look closer next time. My bad.
Since then, she's hit a flying swing, slipped in the tub, cracked her head off a playground counter, banged it into my head, and hit it off the DVD shelf somehow.
And I'm fairly certain there were more... but seriously, I stopped mentally noting them... it's as common as meals these days.
Maybe I should supervise my kid more... but I don't think that's it. I'm always right there when it happens - I think... she just really needs a helmet.

Heat Wave
"Look, Mom, that sprinkler is peeing him pants."
Super hot temps mean sprinkler action and a blow up pool oasis... grainy pics courtesy of Blackberry.
